Pacman Agrees to Play in Canada

Posted by TheHockeyGuy on 1st September 2009

If controversial cornerback Adam “Pacman” Jones is going to return to the NFL, it will be via the Canadian Football League. Jones agreed in principle to a one-year deal with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers late Monday night and is expected to join the team as early as Wednesday.

“It’ll be a good experience for me to get back in game shape and compete and play football, which I like to do,” Jones told SI.com. “I’m real happy for the opportunity that’s been given to me. Of course it’s disappointing to me to not be playing in the NFL. But things happen and you have to adjust. ”
The issue with Jones, who turns 26 on Sept. 30, has never been physical skills; it has been off-the-field incidents. He was suspended for the 2007 season for violating the NFL’s personal conduct policy, and last year after being traded from Tennessee to Dallas he was suspended for four games following an altercation with a team-employed bodyguard.

Argos excited for return of Sam

Posted by GameSetMatch on 28th August 2009

After waiting out a nagging injury, Argos WR P.K. Sam seems ready to make his 2009 debut Friday night against the Calgary Stampeders. The only question left is who is more excited about his return to the lineup – Sam or the Argos brass. The Argos coaching staff is hoping that Sam can add both size and smarts to a receiving corps that has seen its fair share of personnel changes in the first seven weeks of the season.

“He is a big target and he runs good routes,” said Head Coach Bart Andrus. “He is a receiver that can bring a lot to our offence and I think he will bring us some extra awareness, extra experience and I am excited to see him play.”

Andrus and his staff have good reason to be hopeful that Sam can add a new dimension to their offence based on his late-season performance in 2008. The Florida State product was arguably the Boatmen’s most productive offensive weapon in the final third of the ’08 season, generating 36 receptions for 499 yards and three touchdowns in only six games after first joining the club in September.

CFL Reviewing Bruce's Touchdown Celebration

Posted by admin on 2nd July 2009

The CFL may not be all that thrilled with Arland Bruce’s tribute to Michael Jackson in the Argos’ 30-17 win in Hamilton.

The league is reviewing the Toronto receiver’s TD celebration Wednesday night.

Following a TD pass from Kerry Joseph that put Toronto ahead 6-0, Bruce removed his helmet, shoulder pads and uniform top and laid down in the end zone. Bruce said he was honoring the memory of Michael Jackson by pretending to be buried.

One-Time Star RB Joe Smith Cut Loose by Blue Bombers

Posted by admin on 1st July 2009

Two years ago, running back Joe Smith was about to start a season where he’d win the CFL rushing title.

Now the three-year veteran is unemployed after he was one of 12 players released Thursday by the Winnipeg Blue Bombers.

Bomber head coach Mike Kelly suggested his decision was two-fold: Smith didn’t give everything he could have during training camp and young running backs Lavarus Giles and Yvenson Bernard made a lasting impression.

Season Preview: Can the Stamps repeat?

Posted by admin on 30th June 2009

John Hufnagel and the Calgary Stampeders will have a tough act to follow in 2009.

In his first year as head coach and GM, Hufnagel led the Stamps to a stellar 13-5 regular-season record and the 2008 Grey Cup championship.

Now, Calgary faces the daunting task of not only trying to repeat as the CFL champion, but also doing it at home. This year’s Grey Cup game will be played Nov. 29 at McMahon Stadium.

Only four teams since 1960 have managed to repeat as Grey Cup champions, the last being the Toronto Argonauts in 1996-’97. And not since 1994 has the home team captured a CFL title when the B.C. Lions edged Baltimore 27-24 at B.C. Place.

Winnipeg Blue Bombers

Posted by admin on 30th June 2009

Newcomer to watch It’s no surprise that Stefan LeFors has been handed the starting quarterbacking job. Kelly became a fan of the ex-Edmonton Eskimo when he served as the Eskimos receiver coach a year ago.

Veteran to watch Defensive tackle Doug Brown will be 35 on Sept. 29 and some have questioned how much longer he can maintain his high level of play. Strengths Even with Milt Stegall’s retirement, the Bombers still boast an opposing aerial attack thanks to the likes of Derick Armstrong, Romby Bryant, Terrence Edwards, Canadian Arjei Franklin and newcomer Brock Ralph.
